Why I Do Not Clip Box Tops Perfectly
Do you clip Box Tops for your school or organization? They are a great fundraiser. I send in hundreds of these little pink coupons to my kids' school. What irked me recently was getting a letter sent home (not to me personally) that said this, more or less "Remember to clip the Box Tops NEATLY and attach them to the form before sending them in." Ok here are my thoughts on this one.
Dear Box Tops Coordinator,
I understand you volunteer your time to do this, GREAT! Thank you! However, before you keep sending these notes home, think of this.
I am the mom that has eleven (11) kids.
I am the mom with a teething 5 month old who gets up numerous times a night and I am downright EXHAUSTED.
I am the mom with a child with a fever and have been taking care of him all day and night.
I am the mom with 17 loads of laundry to do. Every day.
I am the mom whose car just broke down, with a car full of kids.
I am the mom who now had 3 children vomiting.
I am the mom taking 6 kids to the doctors office and getting massive amounts of stares and looks making me feel inadequate as a mother.
I am the mom who has nothing to eat in the house and must figure out how I am going to get to the grocery store without taking sick children.
I am the mom who has to help 7 kids with homework every night.
I am the mom who has to cook for a small army. Every. Single. Day. Three times a day.
I am the mom whose child just forgot their trombone and has to run it up to school.
I am the mom driving to 5 craft stores to buy supplies for 3 different projects that are due this week.
I am the mom with overdue library books.
I am the mom with the 2 yr old melting down IN THE LIBRARY.
I am the mom who hasn't had a shower in 2 days because there is no time because I put my kids first.
I am the mom whose husband works 2 jobs to put food on the table and is gone from 6am until 11pm almost every night of the week.
I am the mom whose husband does have a night off and he gets to come home and eat dinner with us (first time in 2 weeks).
I am the mom who volunteered to bring in cookies for the class party, but didn't have time to actually make them so I had to go buy them someplace.
I am the mom whose child just broke his arm and we spent hours in the emergency room.
I am the mom who drives 5 kids to different practices and games to all hours of the evening.
I am one of those "dance moms." (ok, maybe not, but my kid spends a lot of time at the studio)
I am the mom who has to cancel a playdate because I am too tired.
Most importantly, I am the mom who just wants to snuggle, cuddle and read with my babies when I have some free time. I do not want to spend it clipping box tops. I apologize. But my time is too precious. I thank you for volunteering, and I am glad you have the time to do this. Maybe offer to come help me, or have some coffee with me and ask what I need help with... maybe the girl talk and coffee will help me through my days, Maybe we can clip them together. But, please don't send notes home like that. You should be thankful I even rip them off the boxes to begin with!
